Program Description:

THE PERSONALITY OF LIGHT

We often think of technical attributes related to lighting and portraiture, but we can easily overlook the character that can be created with light that relates to the personality of each individual we photograph.

In this workshop, Hernan will review a selection of images and share how he applies character and personality to his portraits by the use of light. These are fundamentals of light, which include shape, color, quantity and quality.

We are either creating portraits without drawing any attention to the lighting, or we have the option of using lighting to create a mood or a narrative, as in the case of cinematic portraits.  This can all be done by the meticulous control of our lights, whether it’d be natural light, flash or continuous lights.

We will review principles that can be instrumental for your portrait work, whether family, glamour, fashion, or any people photography. This also includes creating optimum angles and perspective of your subjects by choosing the proper lens.

Hernan will be reviewing and showcasing the lighting techniques he uses on his commercial and celebrity portrait work, and the reasons why he uses one lighting style over another.
